Expecting a baby? Congratulations!
What an exciting time, guessing the gender, thinking of names and planning the nursery.
Here at Beautiful Baby Box HQ we are expecting our second child, due in April 2018.
We have moved to a new house since William was a baby and he is now happily settled in his big boy bedroom. He is still thankfully sleeping in a cot and I am slightly dreading when the time comes to change the cot into a bed. We chose a Peter Pan theme for his bedroom so he has something that will grow with him. Clever Mr C put up the pirate ship mast and the ship wheel in the cot.
We have spent many happy hours reading books in the Tepee and it is safe to say the bedroom has been a hit.
Now I have started thinking about the nursery for baby number 2. Although we have kept quite a few bits from Williams baby nursery we want to go for a different direction this time.
Here are the top 10 products I am lusting after for baby number 2 (gender unknown).
- The most stylish nursing chair ever.
I discovered this amazing company before I was even pregnant and fell in love with the chairs. I would be over the moon to have any one of these in the nursery but I think the Bertie rocker is my favorite.
Baby Grey was created in 2017 by Mum of one, Sofie Hepworth. Sofie is also expecting her second child in 2018. Congratulation Sofie!
- The most Instagram worthy sleeping spot for a newborn.
If you follow us on Instagram you may have seen that we recently gave away one of these beautiful handmade Moses baskets in a big giveaway. When the competition was over and the winner announced, I found it very hard to pack up the Moses basked and send it on the winner.
These baskets are the perfect spot for your newborns first precious naps and if you can’t take your eyes off them for a minute, they photograph beautifully. I recommend checking out Tilly and Cub’s Instagram page to get some inspiration for your own photos.
Jo the amazing woman who runs Tilly and Cub is just about to have her second baby and I can’t wait to see which Moses basket she chose for her bundle of joy.
- Perfect for a fairytale nursery.
Ok so this one might not work for a baby boys nursery but I couldn’t resist putting on the list as it is so beautiful. If I do get this and we have a boy I am sure I can find somewhere else for it to go!
I have seen several of these around but this swan head by Graham and Green is my favorite.
It is currently out of stock but due back in March, you can sign up on their website and they will email you when it is back in stock.
- Super stylish and good for your baby.
I am lucky enough to be working with this exciting new company to come up with something special for our Beautiful Baby Boxes in 2018. Did you know that in the womb, your baby’s eyes are drawn to where light and dark meet. Once born, babies are enchanted by simple, high contrast black and white patterns as they cannot yet see colour. That’s what makes Flying Baby Shapes mobiles so perfect for your baby. Suzi is the fabulous creator behind the company and recommends hanging them around your changing mat to distract baby while you get on with the wonderful task of changing all those nappies.
My favorite is the hot air balloon and clouds, I can already picture it above a changing table.
- Perfect for delicate skin
Protecting delicate baby skin is something I feel very strongly about. When William was a tiny baby he suffered with eczema all over his body including his face. We tried everything to help clear it up and by his first birthday we had won the battle.
Harry and Rose are a British Baby Skincare range with Natural, Pure and Organic ingredients. Not only are they wonderful products they are also beautifully packaged. Perfect for your child at any age, or even for mummy when she gets a much-needed bubble bath!
- Perfect for relaxing before and after baby arrives
I stumbled across this company in the summer at the Frome independent market, I was attracted by the delicious smells and beautiful packaging. After a long time smelling every single candle on offer I eventually managed to pull myself away with two candles to try at home. Now we are in winter and both candles have almost run out (some of the candles have 80 hours of burning time!) I’m going to treat myself to some new ones. All the candles are hand poured by Amalia and James in their studio in Dorset, they smell divine and are perfect for taking 10 minutes out of your busy life to sit down, relax and clear your mind. They also source reclaimed items such as tins and teacups to fill with their special soy wax but watch out, these sell out fast!
My favorite smell at the moment is Darjeeling & Tea Rose.
- Heirloom blanket to keep for generations
I was pregnant with William when Princess Katherine was expecting Princess Charlotte. I remember waiting excitedly for her to come out of hospital so we could all see her for the first time. Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte came out wrapped in beautiful baby blankets, the type you can imagine being passed down through generations.
When William was born I treated him to this beautiful blanket. I loved seeing it laid over him as he slept in his pram. It is still in immaculate condition even though it was well used so it will be perfect for baby number 2 but I am tempted to get a second one in a slightly different colour.
- You can’t beat handmade
You just can’t beat something that is handmade just for you. It feels extra special as you know someone has put so much love and care into it.
Nina from little world boutique is super talented, she makes all sorts of baby and children’s clothes and the best bit is that they are completely customisable. You can choose the fabric, length, style and even have it personalised. I can’t get enough of her hand smocked items, this baby romper works for a boy or girl and looks stunning in white.
- For the mum who doesn’t want to lose her style
Pacapod is a British company who design baby changing bags that are super practical but also look amazing. Who wants to lose their style just because they have had a baby? This will take you all the way through the baby years and then can still be used as a weekend getaway bag.
I am lusting after the Firenze leather bag in pewter. Its timeless, classic and it will go with everything.
- Record baby’s development in style
Babies grow so fast! I know everyone tells you this but I don’t think you really understand until you have seen it for yourself. You don’t want to look back in a few years and think I wish I had taken more photos. You can record your baby’s growth and development each month with a milestone blanket, Deborah and Verity have a great collection of these to choose from and you can get them personalised with your baby’s name. Never miss a moment, my top pick is the Botanical Blanket, perfect for a boy or girl.
- Perfect to help establish a good sleep routine
William was given a musical toy to hang on his cot when he was born, when we started to introduce a sleep routine we would put the toy on as we put him down. We still do this now and when we stay somewhere different this helps him to know it is time to go to sleep.
I found this lovely company on Instagram and think the musical cushions are perfect for a new baby. They are great value for money and as they are handmade you can choose from a range of fabrics and have your baby’s name embroidered on the front. There is a choice of two musical tunes and the wooden handle is a perfect teether. I think the gold rain drops fabric is beautiful.
Ok so there are actually 11 things on my list but it was too hard to narrow it down to 10!
With the likes of Instagram, Not on the High Street, Etsy and now Beautiful Baby Box there are so many ways to find all sorts of wonderful baby products, only trouble is deciding what to buy!
I hope you enjoy this list, I will report back and let you know what bits I am lucky enough to get for baby number 2’s nursery.
I would love to hear about things you are lusting over, or things you can recommend for a new baby.
